Getting around
Phuket is large and public transport is limited, so most people use Grab, Bolt or hire a scooter (only if confident; roads are hilly and accidents are common). Songthaews and metered taxis exist but can overcharge. Day trips and island boats are easiest booked through reputable operators.
Safety
Phuket is generally safe, but take care: scooter accidents are the biggest risk, so wear a helmet and ride cautiously. Watch for strong monsoon-season currents and obey red-flag warnings, agree taxi fares upfront, and be alert to jet-ski and timeshare scams in the busy beach areas.
